I can certainly see the OO principles in GTK+, and in various Gnome libs.

I was kind of hoping that some people would tell some success stories of
how their favorite OO language integrates with GTK+ and these other libs.

I've got to admit I'm intrigued by what kind of new language could be
contrived ... but I'm realistic enough to understand that by the time such
a thing was constructed, today's problems would be in the past.
