Overlapping widgets ?

Is it possible to make widgets "overlap" ?

What I want to do is to create skewed buttons and drawing area (pixmap).

The layout should be something like this:

*********** ***********
* Button * * Drawing-*
********* *   area  *
******** *         *
* B2  * *         *
****** ***********

I can change the button's shape by using gtk_widget_shape_combine_mask
But how do I place the wigdets ??  (Table/vbox/hbox ??)
