Question about types

I see a GtkType object, and judging from its members i think it would 
help me navigate through the whole gtk hierarchy (whew, its that how its 
written). I mean, i want to trasverse the "gtk tree of classes".

Is that what the thing is for????

Could anybody help me understand???  (HELLLLLLL....P!)
