What he wrote to you is right. You have to have a Russian locale. It
may very well be that the locale you have is old. Get a newer version
of the C library. If it does not work, drop me a line, I'll try to
find you a good locale. I do not have it with me now because I am working
on Sparc, and Sun "thinks" we should russify computers with iso8859-5
(at least in Solaris 2.5.1) which is stupid -- almost none uses iso8859-5
these days.
