UPDATE:
I upgraded to 0.45 this morning, and attempted to re-save as an Excel file,
but even more weirdness occurred. The .gnumeric file opened fine, and the save
to .xls seemed to work, however when I went to close the worksheet, gnumeric
complained that the worksheet had unsaved changes (even though I had done
nothing). When I clicked "Yes" to save them, the same dialog popped up again
asking if I wanted to save the changes. This occurred until my patience ran
out. So now I have two copies of the .xls file:
http://www.netcom.ca/~mguenthe/powertrain.xls
http://www.netcom.ca/~mguenthe/powertrain2.xls
They both came from the same, unedited .gnumeric file, however for one I
clicked "No" to save the changes, and the other (powertrain2.xls), I clicked
"Yes" several times before clicking "No". You will notice they are different
sizes (I'm thinking this is a Bad Thing). I tried opening both of them at the
university labs, neither of them worked, and the powertrain.xls file actually
caused Excel to crash when it attempted to open it.
In response to J. Hellan, I opened up my .gnumeric file and copied the whole
thing into a new .gnumeric file, and re-saved it. After fixing some of the
formulae, I attempted to save this new file as an .xls file and it worked
fine. I won't have a chance to test this new excel file until tomorrow. If
someone wants to take a look it's at the same place:
http://www.netcom.ca/~mguenthe/test.xls
I also think that the having to click an un-edited workbook several times
might be a general bug with the new version of Gnumeric. On my machine if you
open any file, then close Gnumeric without changing anything, it keeps bugging
you about "unsaved" changes until you click "No". The resultant file is of
a different size than the original (even though nothing has been touched).
Should I file this at bugs.gnome.org?
