Question: How do I close this Window?
My Answer: File->Close or just close in the usual way.
Rodd's Answer: Click Exit, no, um, I meant Close, oh, wait, maybe Exit...
If I wanted a feature which might (on its whim) close the window or
just replace the current document in that window with a blank one,
I would call this feature "Unexpected Window behaviour" or perhaps
"File->Huh?". If that feature was in a package I actually had to use,
and labelled "Close", I would just file a bug.
Yes, Excel has this misfeature, it comes from MDI, as do lots of other
ugly kludges (such as dialogs which are document-centric, but lock
out the GUI for the whole app with a modal dialog), we do not need to
add bugs, kludges or misfeatures from Excel, we have enough already
of our own to work on. Microsoft are, as I have already said, removing
the MDI kludge from some (though not all) of their new apps.
Nick.
