disappearing cell data

Hi,

When I enter data into certain cells of a worksheet and hit return the
data disappears from the cell, but it does still affect the calculations
in the sheet.   When I focus on that cell again the data  appears in the
data entry area but not in the cell itself.

I have gnumeric 0.36-1 installed.

I'm sure this is one of those 'duh' questions but I've been through the
manual twice with no luck.
