As Damien said, it is because the libs are not compilable under gcc 3.X, you
must patch them, Debian patch for pwlib includes the patches for making them
compatible with gcc 3.X, you can get them from any debian mirror that
includes the non-US part at
debian-non-US/pool/non-US/main/p/pwlib/pwlib_1.2.5-4.diff.gz
