Granted permissions without asking....

I have just set up a Debian Lenny pc with a Gnome GUI. Some apps (like GParted!) are allowing root access without requiring a password. Since the pc will be used, unsupervised, by the public, this seems like a situation that I should try to change. I must have done something during the install that caused this to occur, but don't know what and don't know how to make the necessary changes. Anybody???
