Applications menu

I have a Dell D600 laptop that I installed LFS and Gnome 2.22 on and
everything was working fine except I didn't have GDM working. I was able
to run Gnome using startx and all the menus were working. I then was
able to get GDM working but since installing GDM nothing shows up when I
click on the Applications menu button. It just changes color with each
click. The Places and System button menus still work fine. Can someone
tell me how I can debug this?
