I've created the new branch, unprotected the old one and retargetted MRs to the new one in Gitlab, but I can't delete the old name. Michael Gratton created an issue:

Per GNOME/geary#324, we are switching the mainline branch over from master to mainline.

I've created the new branch, unprotected the old one and retargetted MRs to the new one in Gitlab, but I can't delete the old name. Clicking the trash button in Gitlab asks me to confirm and does the "please wait" spinner, but that then stops and nothing changes. Attempting to do so from the command line gives:

mjog@blanchefort:~/Projects/GNOME/geary$ git push origin --delete master
remote: ---
remote: You are trying to delete a protected branch.
remote: ---
To gitlab.gnome.org:GNOME/geary.git
! [remote rejected] master (pre-receive hook declined)
error: failed to push some refs to 'git@gitlab.gnome.org:GNOME/geary.git'

This is despite it not being protected in Gitlab any longer.

A few notes on this side: 1. The repository's history has been rewritten to remove some of the old objects that contained passwords that are still in use (the former solution we had for this case was going with a shallow clone) 2. I made sure any of the secrets that might be still visible have been revoked or are not in use anymore 3. Update all the hooks and relevant documentation that contained the former location 4. Granted access to the team to the repository on GitLab, please make sure to update the origin remote! The repository can now be found at [2]. Let me know if there's anything not working as it should as a consequence of this change. Thanks! The problem was related to one of the users who shared a directory with Neil was removed from the foundation membership LDAP group and thus couldn't be found anymore. I extended the groups that can access nextcloud including former foundation members as well (via the mailusers LDAP group) and that fixed the issue, thanks!

With sysadmin-bin!6 being part of our code= base we also want to make sure any of the projects hosted in github refl= ect the current state when it comes to the default branch for a project (= which, again, might be different than former master).

=0D=

Please adjust https://= gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/sysadmin-bin/blob/master/git/post-receive= -mirror-github and make sure the main branch is updated in github as = well in case it differs from master.
