I'm not entirely sure what you mean.
If GNOME chooses to switch to a different application
for the music player in the future, we'll have to
rewrite docs anyway.
There's a bit of a problem with app names anyway, I
think. I launch 'Archive Manager' from the apps menu,
and I get a window called 'File Roller'. It's a bit
surprising for the new user.
I thinking in write the documentation a way that it
could be used by any Desktop User, with out worry about what system
he/she is using.
Why write for a "Desktop User"?
The documentation could be used by other projects like XFCE, KDE and
why not Windows too. May be its too ambisous but could increase the
documantators working in a common task.
The user could be familiar with other projects like KDE, and want a try
with GNOME, if he could find the "same way for a task" could be easy to
switch or simply use it (may be he/she is using a desktop of a GNOME
user). This could help the integretion in the FreeDesktop.org project.
