Hi Daniel etc all, Could anyone like to give any comments on my question:What's the significant difference between FAM and Gamin? From the website I can see Gamin do some optimization on FAM, I am thinking why we not putback these fix to FAM, instead of developing a new Gamin?
We have a new kernel support, File Events Notification API, ready at Solaris, seems we can do the port, and is there any other pre-requisites to make Gamin run at other OS?
Can Gamin support thin-client environment? e.g. SunRay. Thanks, Henry Henry Zhang 写道:

(From the Gamin news http://www.gnome.org/~veillard/gamin/news.html, I find this "fix build with Sun's compiler(James Andrewartha)".) And is there any pre-requisites for porting Gamin? Is it possible to run Gamin in Sun Ray?Gamin tries to use kernel support to detect file changes. So it is tied to the underlying kernel (or fallback to polling), it works on some BSD because support was added, it may work on Solaris, but it's likely to be far from optimal unless special support for that kernel is added.Currently, a new kernel support, File Events Notification API, have been implemented at Solaris, and will integreted into Solairs recently, that's the reason I try to think port Gamin, so I think the kernel support maybe not big problem at the moment, (if it can fully support Gamin, I need to verify when try to port Gamin). And currently my concern is if Gamin can run with our SunRay, and is there any special pre-requisites for building/run Gamin? Thanks, HenryDaniel
