I found the problem: I compiled with
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib/pkgconfig:/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
so it was using the 2.0.3 libraries for the 2.0.4 version. Changed to
PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig
did a 'make clean', './configure' and 'make install' and then and it
worked.
