I saw this bug: https://bugzilla.netfilter.org/show_bug.cgi?id=522 from several years ago which suggested that it may work with ekiga now. I am setting up a router with openWRT which does not seem to have the conntrack_sip module compiled by default, which makes me a little suspicious. I have several sip devices behind the firewall and need to open the firewall dynamically for sip traffic. And I distinguish the different clients by using distinct destination ports in the 506* range. If the nf_conntrack_sip and nf_nat_sip modules work, then presumably they are all I need. I find netfilter documentation to be dated and inadequate: it is unclear to me where to find information: as far as I can see, I have to read the kernel source and the configuration files to get up to date information. >From # modinfo nf_conntrack_sip ... parm: ports:port numbers of SIP servers (array of ushort) ... it looks as if I need to load with the port range. I am not even sure whether this is for servers or clients behind the firewall (or both). You do not even need distinct destination ports: Linux implements symmetric NAT, where the public IP/Port will be dynamically allocated depending on the internal IP:port and the external IP:port. As long as the internal IP is different, you do not need to ensure different internal ports. If it does not magically work (with STUN disabled), then there are still bugs... I have never tried it myself. Thanks for the reply. I will experiment and report back and maybe put something on the wiki if I get it working. It may take some time: I am still finding my way around openWRT and custom compilation. I was a little concerned about the tracker modifying the contents of SIP packets: commercial routers with "SIP ALG" which I suspect are based on these modules seem to fail. ael From micheal65536 at gmail.com Thu Jan 29 09:54:47 2015 From: micheal65536 at gmail.com (Micheal Johnson) Date: Thu, 29 Jan 2015 09:54:47 +0000 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga microphone problem Linux Mint Message-ID: Hello, I'm having a problem with setting up Ekiga under Linux Mint 17 64-bit MATE Edition. The problem is that the sound from my audio input is being played back through my own audio output. The problem is most certainly not caused by bad acoustic setup on the other person's end of the call because I muted the other person's speakers and the problem still occurred. I've also tried muting all input-related controls in alsamixer, pavucontrol and mate-volume-control, but either the problem persists or my audio input gets turned off completely (i.e. the recipient can't hear me either). I really don't know what could be causing this, and it has never happened before with other programs that use the audio input. Or maybe you could just try the Mate Desktop people and complain that they've broken the sound device selection *again* - it didn't work for ages - then it worked fine until a couple of updates ago - now it's broken. I really like Mate but I use a few different audio devices - usb sound card, web cam, and so on. Every so often I have to switch to Cinnamon because they break the audio device selection. I'm running old(er) hardware and Gnome doesn't work very well for me, if you can run Gnome then try that. Cinnamon looks good but it's a pain - how can you have a menu that takes longer to load that Libre Office? - but at least the audio works. Sometimes I login with Cinnamon, set up the audio device I want then log out and log back in with Mate - that seems keep the settings. What a phaff!
