After setting up an ekiga account at ekiga.net, I received a confirmation email from ekiga.net. The email listed free features including free toll-free calling. Using the dialpad, I entered +18005551212 as well as this number without a +. An error message instructed me to enter an URL. Toll free numbers do not have an URL. They are numbers. Message-ID: Hi, wanted to say that yes ekiga does work on android but it depends on what sip client you are using. For example I have a custom rom that runs android 2.3.3 (gingerbread) and I can't register to ekiga using the built in native client for my rom. When I try to register I get a 606 error. Now if you want to use your ekiga sip, and want it to register then you will have to use a different sip client than the built in one for android gingerbread os. Those android sip clients that allow ekiga to register include sipdroid, csipsimple and linphone. Out of the 3, I having used all of them, would say csipsimple is the best. Now in terms of video calling in android while using sip, I have never been able to with any of the sip clients like the built in one in gingerbread os, csipsimple, sipdroid, and linphone, I also don't think csipsimple, linphone support video calling and video conferencing. The two things that I do know of that do, do video calling is the new Google talk included for android 2.3.4 (where you can video chat with your friends who are on Google talk) and fring's app which allows video calling but not over sip and only through there network, which is similar to Google talk which if your friends have fring you can video call them (I think they allow up to 4 way video calling). Other than that I don't think there are any other apps for sip on android that does the whole video calling and conference, but most of the sip apps on android in my opinion are solid and great for audio calling, especially since I don't think at least here in the states, video calling through voip/sip has caught on. Which is bad because if there was a large demand for video calling then more developers could make there sip clients do so. We have a Polycom HDX 6000 Videoconferencing system in one of our conference rooms. We would like to enable individual users to connect to this system for videoconferencing purposes from their webcam enabled PCs. Will Ekiga work for this? If so, can someone tell me how? I installed ekiga and attempted to dial our polycom system but the software seems to want to connect to only other ekiga.net users. I have access to a Polycom VSX-8400 and H323 calls to it *sort* of worked - I got garbled/frozen video at the time I tested it (with Ekiga running on a netbook) and haven't had the time since to look into it further, but setting up calls etc. seemed to work. I haven't tested SIP with the Polycom, but have with a Sony PCS-XG80 - again I ran into what looked like a video codec issue between it and Ekiga, but calling seemed to otherwise work okay; one does however have to set a SIP address in the Sony using the web admin interface. I used a Ekiga.net address in this case but I can't think off the top of my head why a SIP address from another free provider wouldn't also work. I am keen to get some hardware-based systems added to the Ekiga Wiki so if we can nut this out it would be great. IHU is a Voice over IP (VoIP) application for Linux (using Qt3), that creates an audio stream between two computers easily and with the minimal traffic on the network. The possibilities of use of IHU are endless, for example you can use it like a phone to talk with your friends all around the world, or at home/work, to talk between computers in the LAN (talkback), etc. | Ekiga can be used to communicate with IP only over LAN | For instance: sip:user at 192.168.0.5 | Currently, it is not possible, yet, to speak with Ekiga with | IP only over WAN (over the Internet) Peer-to-Peer: the communication takes place directly between the computers (UDP and TCP both supported), without need of session protocols (such as SIP or H323) or other servers in the middle. Crypted stream: you have also the possibility to Encrypt/Decrypt the stream using a fast hybrid cryptographic system (RSA + Blowfish) Command-line support: the GUI is not strictly necessary, you can run also a textual IHU from command-line (for example if you need to run the program on remote computers). Can anybody write a Plugin or add to Ekiga a feature to communicate in the same way that IHU does? If you want to test it, there is a standalone package that can be run directly from a USB stick (no installation is required!) http://ihu.sourceforge.net/download.html ihu-0.6.0-bin_staticQt.tar.bz2 0.6.0 i386 binary linked with static libs 2550 KB Just enter the IP address of your friend and start to chat! The quality is better than Skype, since IHU is using Speex :-) [An emergency call!] This feature will be very beneficial in cases when one of the intermediate SIP servers is down ^_^ From thedogfarted at gmail.com Wed Aug 17 14:46:22 2011 From: thedogfarted at gmail.com (=?UTF-8?B?SsSBbmlzIFJ1a8WhxIFucw==?=) Date: Wed, 17 Aug 2011 17:46:22 +0300 Subject: [Ekiga-list] More Ekiga and Polycom issues In-Reply-To: <65139ABE4349BE43B639CB83C54F93D02097B0BF@EXCH01.ad.clarkson.edu> References: <65139ABE4349BE43B639CB83C54F93D02097AE78@EXCH01.ad.clarkson.edu> <4E4AD6B5.5060008@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <65139ABE4349BE43B639CB83C54F93D02097B0BF@EXCH01.ad.clarkson.edu> Message-ID: On Wed, Aug 17, 2011 at 4:34 PM, William C. Hi Severin, First, having an ekiga.net account has nothing to do with diamondcard.us, and ekiga itself has nothing to do with diamondcard.us. Second, I do not know exactly how the small financial contribution goes to ekiga, but as briefly suggested at http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Documentation#Ekiga_Call_Out_Account_.28PC_to_Phone.29, I think this contribution comes only when using ekiga. >> Ekiga is a VoIP client for the SIP protocol, so every other software which >> is a VoIP client for SIP can communicate with the Ekiga software SIP client >> and you can use the ekiga.net SIP server, or any other SIP server, with >> Ekiga or any other SIP client software. >> >> You might want to use LinPhone for Android >> http://www.linphone.org/eng/linphone/news/android.html >> http://www.linphone.org/eng/download/packages/android.html >> https://market.android.com/details?id=org.linphone >> >> Or whatever else... >> http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Ekiga_Interoperability#Android >> >> Regards, >> GK. It is a bug-fixing release since the previous unstable release (1 month ago). It is not yet a replacement of the last stable release (3.2.7), but should be used by people having problems with the stable release and by people who want to help ekiga. It has received only few testing, it works on developers machines, and the only known major regression (which should hopefully be fixed in the next unstable release) compared to the last stable release is the following: - after a (missed) incoming call during a communication, cannot be called anymore * What is it ? ============== Ekiga is a free Voice over IP softphone allowing you to do free calls over the Internet. Ekiga is the first Open Source application to support both H.323 and SIP, as well as audio and video. Ekiga was formerly known as GnomeMeeting. I've followed the Audio Setup page, set all audio devices to the Default (PTLIB/ALSA) (and later everything else just to check), I confirmed that my ALSA configuration was working properly as both echo tests functioned flawlessly: $ arecord -D plughw:0,0 -c 1 -r 8000 -f S16_LE - | aplay -D plughw:0,0 -c 1 -r 8000 -f S16_LE - $ arecord -D plughw:0,0 -c 1 -r 16000 -f S16_LE - | aplay -D plughw:0,0 -c 1 -r 16000 -f S16_LE - But I am unable to perform an echo test within Ekiga. I can receive calls and hear the audio, but the microphone will not pick anything up. Looking at other archives, I didn't see a solution that worked for me. More info that might be useful: $ alsamixer tells me that Master and Capture are both 100% $/sbin/lspci | grep Aud 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06) The codecs are set to their defaults: Speex, PCMU, PCMA, silence detection and echo cancelation are not enabled. The same headpiece performs under skype. I'm happy to send any other information. Best, Joseph -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Have you executed "make uninstall" for old versions? Anyway, a brute solution is to execute: rm -rf /usr/lib64/libpt.* /usr/lib64/libopal.* /usr/lib/libpt.* /usr/lib/libopal.* rm -rf /usr/include/ptlib /usr/include/ptlib.h /usr/include/opal Afterwards, recompile everything. Very likely it is too busy and in such cases it can return Symmetric NAT, and this type of NAT is not supported by ekiga. No, linphone has an Android-specific port. In general, no Linux [1] software that is non-trivial, can run on Android unmodified. First, Android is about just as much Linux as OS X is FreeBSD. Or even less - it doesn't even have X (well you can install X but it's pain in the ass). Second, Android runs on ARM while most desktop software is written assuming it will run on x86 only. Making Ekiga to run on Android would be a very tedious task. One would have to make sure Ekiga and every library it depends on (including the standard C++ library) builds and runs correctly on ARM, using uClibc instead of a full-fledged C library. And then probably make some additional adjustments to adapt the small screen size of a phone. [1] Here I mean Linux as commonly understood - GNU operating system using Linux kernel. This is where the GNU/Linux vs Linux distinction becomes really important. -- Ian From john at Calva.COM Thu Aug 25 09:21:26 2011 From: john at Calva.COM (John Hughes) Date: Thu, 25 Aug 2011 11:21:26 +0200 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga on Android In-Reply-To: References: <20110822082003.174490@gmx.com> <4E555CD8.7070707@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> Message-ID: <4E561416.6010306@Calva.COM> On 24/08/11 23:14, J?nis Ruk??ns wrote: > No, linphone has an Android-specific port. Sure it works but as far as I know uClibc is the default C library on Android. I'm not saying it is not possible to get Ekiga to run on droid. I know that much of the Debian has been ported, including C++ library, X and GTK. It's just that I get the impression that many people hear Android, think Linux and assume that running any Linux software is simply a matter of cross compilation. PS. With network detection enabled, ekiga always gives me an error message, requesting manual prot forwarding setup which doesn't help. Otherwise it says that registration with the SIP provider (both ekiga.net and iptel.org) failed. Trying to use one of the services of ekiga.net (echo test etc) gives me a Security check failed error. I don't know the TG585 model but I assume it is not very different to my ST716v5 since they are built with Broadcom chipsets. In that one I had to modify the default settings as follows, using telnet: 1) connection unbind application=SIP port=5060 (source : http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Routers+SIP+ALG) 2) connection bind application=CONE(UDP) port=3478 Then Stun works for Linphone and it is not needed to NAT any port. Ekiga seems to be a bit more exacting however but I am not able to say more. > With network detection enabled, ekiga always gives me an error message, > requesting manual prot forwarding setup which doesn't help.
