Does it work from Ekiga even if Ekiga does not use the HTTP tunnel ?

Yes it would , in both ways .

Why do you think they would put their server offline ?

Because the wengo company recently stops funding the  Openwengo project and thus  will close voip.wengo.fr proxy and httpproxy.wengo.fr .
