Background image

Dear all,

A very easy question probably already answered but I did not found it. I
am trying to build a diagram with a background image. I discovered how
useful is  layers feature for this. I am trying to import a background
image from different formats. The initial one is an iges file but I have
converted it into a gif picture. The problem is that using dia from
window with UNIX emulation with a gif background is extremely slow. To
preserve background image quality I have converted it into svg but dia
deals with it as a conventional picture and quality and vectorisation is
lost when importing and dia speed remains slow. Additionally to it, a
strange behaviour appears making a diagram with a picture background ,
the elements of the diagram sometimes disappear. It seems that redraw is
not automatic and I have to wait until the appear again. Any idea for
this issue?
