How to compose UML / Flowchart Drawings in Dia

I would like to learn how to create a flowchart / process style diagram 
to explain programs that I am trying to write. I find it easy to 
visualize code if it's in a diagram.

My question is does anyone know onlist any howtos / info that can give 
me a basic overview of how all the flowchart boxes should go together 
and how to link them correctly.

A flowcharting 101 would be great.
